What is Nazarene Child Sponsorship?

NCM Child Sponsorship exists to advocate for children who are destitute. Following the example of Jesus, NCM partners with local Nazarene congregations around the world to clothe, shelter, feed, heal, educate, and live in solidarity with those who suffer under oppression, injustice, violence, poverty, hunger, and disease.
Responding to this call, Nazarene Child Sponsorship is a ministry that engages the church to:
• provide a tangible expression of Jesus Christ’s love through holistic child development.
• facilitate a personal relationship between sponsors and children.
• equip children to use their God-given gifts within their families and communities while embracing Christ’s mandate to live a life of love and compassion.

How do I become a sponsor?

Sponsorship is open to an individual, family, group, or congregation who commits to providing monthly support for a child enrolled in a Nazarene Compassionate Ministries supported project. These include education and training centers set up by local Nazarenes (Child Development Centers) and education programs for children of local pastors. You can choose a child in need and sign up to sponsor him or her online, or you can call us and sign up over the phone at 866-247-9399.

How are Child Sponsorship donations used?

Your monthly investment provides life-changing benefits for children. Education, healthcare, nutritional support, social interaction, and Christian training assist in your child’s growth and development. At least 80 percent of your gift goes directly to services for children at the program level. Five percent of this 80 percent is used for program costs for children who are not yet sponsored but who are in the Child Development program. No more than 20 percent is used for administrative and fundraising costs in the international and regional offices. This includes funding for field program coordinators, sponsor/child relations, and payment processing.

Can I write to the child I sponsor?

We encourage sponsors to write to the children they sponsor. Because of the cost of shipping, we are unable to send gifts to your children, but feel free to send cards, letters, and appropriate pictures. Please include the child’s name and number on the letter and send it to:

Why have I not recently recieved a letter from the child I sponsor?

There could be several reasons that you have not heard from your child recently. Letter writing is a required component of the child sponsorship program, but we recognize that each child’s situation is different. Many live far from town and are not able to get their letters to the child sponsorship staff very easily. Some live in countries where they are not able to safely talk about their faith. Others are new to the program and learning about the requirements. If you have not heard from you child in the last six months, feel free to call us to check on the status of your child’s correspondence.
