Relief
Through disaster response, NCM provides aid to people affected by natural disasters, war, and famine. These responses are implemented by local church leaders and members as ministry projects within their communities. Typically, because emergency relief projects are by nature reactive rather than proactive, NCM ministry begins once a disaster occurs. It is then that NCM immediately contacts the appropriate field coordinator in the affected area. Based on information gathered from the field staff and local community, the field coordinator advises how the Church can respond, and a plan for relief is put into action. In areas where hurricanes and storm-related natural disasters often occur, NCM works with local leadership to develop a long-term relief plan that can be put into action immediately once a disaster occurs.
Once a disaster is reported via the news media or an NCM press release, the response from Nazarenes around the world is immediate and generous. Funds and gifts in kind are donated for the specific disaster. NCM then utilizes the deep volunteer base of the local Church for project initiation, implementation, and monitoring to respond to the affected area’s immediate needs.
NCM prepares for impending disasters by having warehouses stocked with gifts-in-kind and crisis care kits. Items from the warehouses are then shipped to meet the needs identified by the affected community when a disaster occurs. NCM also works with partners to aid in immediate medical needs. In addition to gifts-in-kind, crisis care kits, and medical supplies, NCM is prepared to send emergency funds to the affected areas for immediate relief that are then recouped once donors begin to respond to the disaster.
