Stories of Response

Louisiana

The first truck arrived Friday, September 1st and we began cooking for the community on Saturday, September 2nd, our food pantry opened the same day. We cooked, clothed, and gave out food and supplies from September 2nd through the 16th; during that period of time we fed approximately 15000 people.

From September 16th through today, November 4th, 2005 we have continued to give food to the community and keep the doors of our church open to whomever has a need; approximately 7000 people have been helped during that time.

We received 25 semi truck loads of food, gave out 1000 tents, worked cutting and clearing trees from houses and yards, washing cars, and repairing homes throughout the community. We gave away 2000 crisis care kits.

The clothing operation was discontinued on Thursday, October 27th, 2005. We gave away all but three bags of the clothes that were brought to our church; the total amount received could have filled three semi trucks.

The scripture that God has given me through this storm has been…Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered into the heart of man the things that God has prepared for those that love Him…O How we have seen Him prepare and give and send to us here in Pearl River and in the surrounding areas.

There is not an accurate way for me to tell you all that has taken place in Pearl River, LA, nor a way to give you perfect numbers. God has given us wise leadership, and we are learning how to be effective distributors of what He has allowed us to do for Him. How very unworthy we feel, but we have offered our lives to do whatever His bidding is to us.

A cup of cold water has come in the form of many things these days…from a tent, to shoes, to used clothing, to bleach, to baby diapers, formula, baby food, bug spray, ointment for Poison Ivy, to sponges, or even Gatorade. The stories are many and the work still is great, not just here in Pearl River, but all over the world.

I am grateful to know that God is hearing the prayers of His people. Great days are ahead for the church, for the Christian, for whoever dares give their life for the One who gave His life to us. May God's Blessing fall on you as you continue to serve Him.

-Rosalind Williams Associate Pastor, Pearl River Church of the Nazarene
