The people of Peru continue to suffer as around 30,000 remain homeless and thousands mourn the loss of over 500 lives in the aftermath of the 8.0 magnitude earthquake on August 15.
In the midst of this tragedy, the Church of the Nazarene in South America is living out the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are meeting each other’s immediate needs. Congregations in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay have collected money to send their brothers and sisters in Peru. Those in the Church of the Nazarene in less affected parts of Peru have collected resources such as clothing and food to transport to Ica and Pisco. Church members in Pisco are supporting each other by making meals together daily in a park.
People in the church are coming together in order to preach the Gospel through performing the works of mercy: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving drink to the thirsty, caring for the sick, and burying the dead.
Continue to pray with and for our family in Peru. Pray that God would comfort the families of the two Nazarene brothers who lost their lives and the loved ones of over 500 others who were killed. Pray that those who are cold and without home would find shelter. Pray for the church members who are already leading emergency and rebuilding efforts.
Prayerfully consider joining your sisters and brothers in the Church of the Nazarene who are caring for those inside and outside of the church who are suffering.
