South Asia Disaster Response (Relief Aid)
Every year the countries of South Asia are devastated by a variety of natural and man-made disasters. Floods and earthquakes, droughts and cyclones, terrorist attacks and civil wars ravage the countries, threaten people's lives, destroy their livelihoods and leave behind only destruction and despair. Those that are not killed by the disasters often succumb in the struggle to survive the after effects, or fail in the effort to rebuild their families and communities.
Most disasters strike suddenly, without warning. While many larger organizations and governments are willing to fund relief measures, the application and approval procedure usually takes well over a week, and funds seldom arrive earlier than two weeks after the disaster. But those affected by the disaster cannot wait this long for help to come. Most of all, they need food and clean water, shelter, and some basic hygiene supplies.
Your gift towards Disaster Response will help NCM relief teams to bring immediate help to the suffering people and cover the time-period until relief funds arrive. The severity of a disaster and extent of aid given cannot be predicted, but a usual disaster response project ministers to about 5,000 families (25,000 people). Basic aid includes food and clean water (often in the form of water purification tablets), shelter (e.g. tents) and hygiene articles. Funds are needed to cover the first two weeks of relief aid following a disaster. Your gift will be used wherever it is needed most.
Relief aid for 5,000 families for 2 weeks: $ 75,000
Food: $ 60,000
Clean Water: $ 7,500
Shelter: $ 5,000
Hygiene articles: $ 2,500
