Post-Hurricane Re-Building Fund

Post-Hurricane Re-Building Fund

Storms affect islands in the Caribbean region every year, and the damage includes destruction of churches, homes, and schools. Your gift to this re-building fund is a tangible way you can assist Nazarenes in the Caribbean to put up stable structures after devastating hurricanes.

More than just gathering places for weekly worship, church building structures will meet ongoing ministry needs for years to come in places where church buildings essentially become community centers where local congregations are able to do all kinds of ministry. And schools allow churches to provide education -- and opportunity -- for hundreds of children. This fund will also be used to assist families with needed repairs to their homes.

Churches in the Dominican Republic, for example, provide spaces for Child Development Centers where kids come every day for spiritual growth, academic health, and nutrition. For more than 300 churches in Haiti, their buildings provide places for schools where children can come every day to gain learning and opportunities for their future.

And when the next hurricane comes, the new structure provides a literal shelter from the storm for the community. After the rains and wind of four storms pelted the Gonaives area of Haiti in 2008, the Desfontainnes Church of the Nazarene became temporary housing for hundreds of people whose nearby houses were all demolished. The more we are able to rebuild, the more opportunities Nazarenes have to reach out to the families in their communities.

- Your gift of $10 will buy a bag of concrete. (Many bags are needed after a storm, but every dollar will help to create stronger structures that can withstand the effects of wind or rain the next storm might bring.)

- Your gift of $15 will provide tin a piece of tin. (For $1,500 you can replace an entire roof in Haiti).

- Your gift of $15 will get a bucket of paint.

- Your gift of $45 will buy a bundle of rebar. (More rebar means sturdier buildings.)

- Your gift of $100 will replace a wooden church pew or school bench.

The costs of rebuilding are high, but the effects are long-lasting as churches seek to reach their communities with Christ's love.
