Guyana: Herstelling Compassionate Center
Update on Herstelling NCM (Guyana) to January 2010
We have added four (4) projects to the completed projects list.
December 2009 – Groceries Love Basket
Our NCM gave relief to 33 families targeting the elderly; widowed and unemployed families in Industry and the East Bank of Demerara through our Nazarene church. We delivered a Christmas groceries basket and funds for a Christmas Chicken ($30 USD per basket). This basket included:- meat; rice; flour; potato; butter; dry beans; tooth-paste; bath soap; curry powder; milk ; oil; fruit punch; chowmein; garlic; onions; salt and sugar and tomato paste.
Christmas 2009 – Christmas Gift for Children
(Planned for Christmas 2008 but deferred to 2009). It was a joy to provide a gift to brighten up the kids Christmas personally. We delivered over 200 toys; games; cd players; back packs and water bottles to kids in 5 areas – East Bank Demerara (Mocha and Herstelling); RB Hill in the hills of Timheri; Industry on the East Coast of Demerara and Paramakatoi community deep in the jungles of Guyana. (Such a project typically costs $10 USD per child including shipping)
Summer 2009 – Medical Care Project
Our NCM gave relief to 18 individuals with various illnesses including hypertension; heart issues; arthritis and diabetes. We were able to provide funding ($35 USD per need) to assist with the medical care of persons in the Herstelling community. This was a project funded by one of our members living in the Caribbean who desired such a medical relief program. A USA based member has sent funds to help with another such project in 2010.
December 2008 – Groceries Love Basket
Our NCM gave relief to 58 families targeting the elderly; widowed and unemployed families in 8 areas on the East Bank of Demerara through 8 local Nazarene churches. We delivered a month’s worth of groceries ($25 USD per basket) and this basket included:- rice; toilet paper; flour; potato; butter; dry beans; tooth-paste; bath soap; detergent ; curry powder; baking powder; oil; matches; chowmein; garlic; onions; salt and sugar.
