Haiti Hot Lunch Program

Haiti Hot Lunch Program

There’s a Haitian proverb that says, "Sak vid pa kanpe," which means "an empty sack cannot stand." It’s hard for hungry children to learn. It’s hard for them to develop physically and mentally. It’s hard for them to dream and hope and grow into the people God created them to be. That's why Nazarene schools in Haiti are offering hope in the form of hot meals. Through the Haiti Hot Lunch program, we are feeding thousands of hungry children each week. But there is still more to be done, and you can help.

Alphonse Celissa is the the parent of four children who attend the Nazarene school in Saint-Louis Du Nord, Haiti. Here’s what he has to say about the Haiti Hot Lunch program: “We are living in a country that has constant economic problems. Sometimes I send my children to school without eating anything because I don’t have money to buy something to cook for them. Because of your help the school has a feeding program, and my children eat every day. This program helps develop the entire community. Because of it, we have a big school to help my children and other children in the area. Let me tell you, before I was not a Christian. My children asked me to go with them to church, and at that time I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior. I say thanks to God and all the people who help us through this feeding program.”

Haiti is the third-hungriest country in the world — most children don't get enough food, but one of every four children is severely malnourished. It's also a country where the literacy rate is only 50 percent. Your donations to the Haiti Hot Lunch program will help provide for children's physical needs and at the same time offer them the opportunities for the future that come with learning and education.

Currently 55 of the more than 300 Nazarene schools have a feeding program. For $350, you can "adopt" an entire school for one month. You can give a one-time donation ($25, $50, $75 ... you decide) that will go a long way toward sustaining the ongoing program. Or you can commit to a monthly gift of $25 that will help several children in a school continue to learn and grow.
