Late in the night on Sept. 7, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mexico, causing devastation in areas of Chiapas and Oaxaca. It was the most powerful earthquake to hit Mexico in more than a century.

At least 95 deaths are confirmed, including one member of our Nazarene family.

Thousands of families are now homeless. Hundreds of schools were destroyed. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to rubble. Multiple Nazarene church buildings were destroyed or damaged. Affected communities are still experiencing large aftershocks. Some people are still trapped, and buildings continue to fall.

Nazarene churches began to respond quickly. They set up 10 distribution points to provide food, water, and first aid supplies to those in need. So far, they have provided food for more than 2,500 people.

Urgent needs include more food, water, and medical supplies.

Chiapas and Oaxaca are home to some of the poorest families and individuals in all of Mexico.

Local churches need your help to meet needs and reach out to their neighbors with the love of Christ.

On September 19, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Mexico in the state of Puebla, just a 80 miles southeast of the capital, Mexico City.

An estimated 225 deaths have been confirmed, but this number continues to rise.

Assessments of the damages are still being made, but this quake has created dangerous circumstances as many buildings were torn and some completely crumbled.

As the local church continues to work fervently to respond to the needs in their community, you can help.
