Making a Difference in Ghana

In Ghana, the Church of the Nazarene is reaching out to their communities with needed supplies and assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Volunteers have distributed food, soap, gloves, Veronica buckets, and face masks. Churches have also designed and installed touchless hand washing station to help community members clean their hands effectively. These activities were made possible partly through donations from church members, and implemented by church volunteers looking to serve their neighbors with love.

Within just a few weeks of compassionate response to the pandemic in Ghana, members of local churches in one region gave out 650 face masks and conducted educational activities in six different provinces. To encourage young people to take an active role in personal sanitation, volunteers prepared and distributed more than 550 containers of liquid soap to children, teenagers, and university students.

In another area of the country, local church members cooked meals for 200 families in need. They provided breakfast and lunch for six weeks, relieving the burden of finding food during strict lockdown orders. Sanitation and hygiene practices were carefully observed while volunteers prepared and served the meals.

Church members also provided spiritual care for the people included in these outreaches, praying with them and encouraging them to remain hopeful during this time.
